Haafingar, Overview (Lore)

From Hofborg

Haafingar lies along the north western coast of Western Skyrim and includes the city of Solitude. The most recent ESO plotline came two years ago from the Grey Host who began an attack on the country with Harrowstorms. The Harrowstorm threat was diminished by the Vestiage and their compatriots, King Svargrim dies, and his daughter Svana recognized King Jorunn and was herself made Jarl of Haafinger.

History
Haafingar (also called Haafingar Hold and the Kingdom of Solitude) is a relatively small, mountainous, coastal hold in northwestern Skyrim. Its capital is the famed city of Solitude, and the two are sometimes treated as one and the same. Solitude is perched atop a large rock outcropping known as the Great Arch, towering high above the Solitude Inlet, which is found at the end of the Karth River and the massive Karth delta. However, Haafingar is far more than just Solitude. The Karth River allows for a great deal of commerce in Solitude and the town of Dragon Bridge in the Karth River Forest (mostly in timber and fish), and the along Giant's Coastline with the Sea of Ghosts is littered with frozen shipwrecks and treasures. Mount Kilkreath and its associated mountains take up a large portion of the hold and it is filled with caves and ruins where bandits and creatures make their homes.
The hold shares borders with two other holds, The Reach to the south, and Hjaalmarch to the southeast. The province of High Rock borders it to the west, and the Forgotten Vale is found between the hold and Wrothgar. The mountains of Haafingar are only the tapered end of the Druadach Mountains, an enormous range of jagged mountain peaks to the south which rise up among the clouds of the Reach. Read More ..

Expanded Lore

Haafingar.png

Various points of interest in the area give us clues to what is going on in the region. This map is the general area that the people of Hofborg believe to be part of Haafingar, obviously border's shift as the political landscape shifts, so this is just the general area of our lore expansion.

Castle Thorn
Castle Thorn was once home to a vampire army, led by the keep’s master, the powerful Lady Thorn. While Lady Thorn is no longer the power she used to be, there is still enough activity in the area that it causes the villagers of Hofborg the occasional sleepless night.
Dragonhome
Dragonhome is a rather extensive Nord ruin in the mountains above the coast and home to a wanna-be Dragon Cult that formed after dragons returned to Elsweyr in 2E 587. They believe that they can bring a dragon back to life and return the cult to prominence. The Resurgent Dragon Cult has never really ventured beyond Dragonhome. However, they are dangerous and secretive, but luckily isolated.
Fimbulvangr (b)
The region it's in is where a large and ancient Giant clan once lived, dating back to the time Nords first started rebelling against the Dragon Cult. One of the first times a Dragon was slain by mortals, it was done with the aid of Giants. A group of rebels, being hunted down for stealing an important relic, snuck into the Giant's main camp. But when the Dragon landed in search for them, it was met with a righteous fury from the Giants, who managed to slay it. As a show of gratitude, the rebels gifted the relic to the Giant chieftain.
The site has historically been used by people seeking an audience with the Giants, most commonly to deliver goods in exchange for a promise to not raid their land.
Giant Camps
Additional giant camps pop up around the region; there is one near Kilkreath, Highland, Deepwood, Sword's Point Coast, and Mor Khazgur. More Fanon ..
Harrowstorm
The Harrowstorms (and the organized return of the Grey Host) are a thing of the past, as they were stopped more than two years ago. However, they were not "wiped off the face of the earth" so the potential for a repeat event exists, (Please do not refer to Harrowstorms as being active or current in role-play.)
Karthald Great Lift
Karthald Great Lift is actually located in the region of Karthald. However, it is just southwest of the Mor Khazgur Giant Camp and thus relatively near to Hofborg. The lift is actually an entrance to Greymoor Caverns.
Kilkreath Temple
Kilkreath Temple is a Nordic ruin temple dedicated to Meridia found in Haafingar. In addition to the main temple complex, there is a small, unmarked Pilgrims' Lodge to the west of the Temple. The priests were hospitable and more than willing to provide travelers with food and warm beds. The Temple's caretakers closed its doors to conduct secret rites during the feasts of High Sun and Low Sun. While many of the local Nords in nearby Solitude found Meridia's worship to be heretical, the Temple is more or less left alone. During 588, the Temple was attacked by a Harrowstorm and most of the priests turned into harrowfiends, but has began to rebuild in the last two years.
The temple is ran by an old Breton man who's name no one got.
Lendoran Ruin
Lendoran Ruin is a Nordic ruin found in northeastern Western Skyrim.
Mor Khazgur
Mor Khazgur is is an Orc stronghold on the border between the holds of The Reach and Haafingar in Skyrim, located on the eastern slopes of the Druadach Mountains. In 582, the overseer's wife Mazog experimented with the "stonemelt" formula, causing a cave-in and opening a deep fissure through which Falmer and chaurus spilled through. This incident caused the deaths of several miners, but with the help of the Vestige the clan was able to rescue the survivors and seal off much of the mines. With the loss of so many tunnels, Chief Urzikh planned to expand her mining operations east into the Druadach Mountains, to the chagrin of local Nords. Most of the Falmer retreated into the deep, but occasionally they will be riled to raid the region.
Shadowgreen
Shadowgreen is a delve located south of the Northern Watch Wayshrine in Haafingar. It is a system of temperate and lush caves deep inside the heart of Mount Kilkreath. A group of Reachmen once occupied Shadowgreen and were attempting a dangerous ritual to force the dormant mountain to erupt. The plot was stopped a number of years ago.
Stablemaster Home (a)
Just north of Pilgrim's Rest is a stable with a home and storage barn. The couple who owns the stable supplies the priests of Kilkreath with unknown goods. Their name is Tyerlings and the wife lost a beloved goat (Sigsi) as tribute during the Giant Trouble of Evening Star 590.
Sword's Point Watchtower
Sword's Point Watchtower is a ruined watchtower found in the mountains of Western Skyrim. The Saebjorn Crew often man this watchtower to keep on the look out for pirate activity. There is a small cave just north of the tower.
Sword's Point Beach (Ysmgar's Beach)
Sword's Point Beach, found on the northern coast of Western Skyrim, was called Ysmgar's Beach for a short period of time when it was inhabited by the sea giant Ysmgar. Ysmgar long defended his camp and stories of his prowess are told in the local inn, Kyne's Keg. Many a young warrior from Hofborg entered Sovngarde by Ysmgar's hand. Today, the beach is still a landing spot for sea giants.
Wolf's Eye Lighthouse
Wolf's Eye Lighthouse is an operational lighthouse found just north of Solitude.
