Talk:The Company (Lore)
From Hofborg

- Currently the company has enough wealth to pay both the thorrstad and hofborg town folk and crew thru the winter. It was better last year when it was just thorrstad, and adding hofborg as a resource means spring is crucial.
Time Line
The company was formed by Branwyn a few years after she and Baene married using money given to them by Branwyn's mother. At first it was just enough to seed a trip in the small 12 man ship he had, but they were successful doing a mix of hauling goods, selling their goods in foreign markets, and doing merc work. Over the next decade or more, Baene build a big ship, the Saebjorn. That is when the company started to make good money. not great money but good, solid middle class merchant family stuff. When the crew found hofborg in Oct the town was in bad shape and needed an infusement of cash. The company provided those funds so the town is in debt to the company. But the company is not THAT wealthy, or that would be very mary sue superman rp, so we are saying that we have just enough to pay everyone thru the winter, but the company is going to need to recoup costs in spring with the goods being produced by the crafters in the town. So my goal was to play out some story lines over the winter, with some crafting events to get the energy going, and then do a story arc in march or so that was about getting all those goods to market. march is a good time to pick back and the seas will be easier to navigate. But right now, no one other then branwyn is "running" the company in hofborg its been just a back story plot bunny. From Branywn
begins, "So, as some of may know, the Saebjorn is associated with a merchantile company. This company has access to the Saebjorn ships, both of them, as well as other merchentile contacts. Its not a very big group, mostly the members of our home town in Eastmarch. But as of the Saebjorn's arrival in Hofbog things are changing." "The Saebjorn arrived in Hofborg just about three months ago, and at the time of our arrival the town was in bad shape. They had lost a lot of villagers years back with the Harrowstorms, the buildings were in disrepair, the roof of the long hall was severely damaged. It was going to cost -significant- funds to repair the town." "Funds the town did not have. Baene and I took a gamble that we could bring this town back to a profitable venture. And I would say we have are nearly sucessful." holds up a hand. "However, the town is in debt to our company." takes a journal and opens it and points at a number. "To the tune of that much." "That number represents our costs of repair and the more sizable number we paid the capital for the towns property taxes. As it stands, Rokthor is paying the town guards himself directly, and all shop keepers working at the public shops are paid by the Company." takes another journal and moves it to show Malraz. "And this represent the proposed income, which includes new residents paying taxes on the homes they move into, and any surplus goods crafted by merchants while on the company's time. So to make a long story short, Malraz. We need money coming in. Some of this you will share with myself and Kjell."
