Practically forgotten for several generations, locals steered clear of the town’s southern border due to rumors of the guardian gate house being haunted, henceforth stifling the town's growth and commerce. But when reports of hostile Giants encroaching on the town’s outer holdings came to Hofborg’s newer denizens, a contingent of the newly reformed town guard, side by side with fighters of the Saebjorn crew, ventured south to quell the reputed spirits.

: Standing as the first line of defense to Hofborg’s southern border, the now restocked and refortified gate house serves as the town’s secured austral entrance. From the ramparts above, sentries keep a watchful eye of the comings and goings that pass through below. Flanking the gate house are watchtowers armed with ballista, ready to aid in the defense of Hofborg’s southern tract. Here, [[NPCs, Hofborg (Lore)|Jorm Bjorn-Gheist]] is the Jorm most likely seen patrolling the ramparts. He is said to be very spiritual and quiet but often found muttering to the gods and giving passersby the side eye. He is very friendly if you offer him a drink though! Don't let the awkward guard deter you from learning his secrets!

: Small and cramped and lacking any grandiose accommodations, the gate house comprises quarters for four or more personnel, so long as they sleep in shifts. A wood burning stove for warmth, crude bunks for sleep, and a few barrels of mead serve as a home away from home for the guards on duty while shields and weaponry are within arms reach. [[NPCs, Hofborg (Lore)|Grimack]] is one of the Ghrasharog seen lingering around South Gate. Grimack mills about the gate house, maintaining the barracks and tending to armor and weapon repairs.

: Framed within wooden palisade walls is a training area for the town militia and guards. Facilities and equipment range from archery practice, axe throwing, sparring in the exercise ring, siege training, or brushing up form on the training dummies. Down time is often spent sharing tales around the large bonfire which casts a comforting warmth to those gathered around.

: Heading north from the gate house is Skógrvegr, the “Forest Road” known as the Crossroads. After being cleansed of the spirits that haunted the garrison, locals and visitors can pass with ease of mind. Now, any and all commerce not entering the town through its northern port comes through South Gate and passes into the Crossroads.

: In addition to the stone and wood fortifications protecting Hofborg, a ward erected by the Temple encircles the town with the intention of blocking the ability of ill intent mages and the like from portalling into town and causing havoc. In the old abandoned tower outside of the town’s protective ward is a staging area for visitors arriving via portal travel to report. Here, the curmudgeon Dunmer bondsman Tythis, is charged with chronicling such individuals in a ledger that is frequently reviewed by the guards on duty.
